What Are The Things You Can Do In New York City?

Submitted by: Russ Blaeser

So many Things to be done in New York City and I am stuck performing dishes, working, and taking care of kids. The winter has me tired and worn out. Well that might not be true ether, if I could not get to NYC, I think I would just be done for. So early last spring I made my New York City travel plans for a tip in the fall. It was an Tuesday evening, no dinner on the table but instead, a map, line from my house to the city center.

When Pat came home from work and got a view of the kitchen we both knew we were in for a fun night of planning. The kids soon sat in front of the TV and pizza was on the way while Pat and I marked the attractions on the map, central park, times square, Central Park, The south street seaport, and even the Staten Island Ferry. I honestly think getting out the map and talking about our trip to New York was enough of a brake to get me though the summer, because once I know and have things set in motion for a trip, I have something to look forward to.

The New York City hotels can be expensive but we are lucky as my sister lives in the Bronx, so we are nothing more than a train ride away from all of the attractions.

Every time we go into the city center I do a bit of research on the Internet. Did you know there are websites that only talk about things to do in New York City? I can never remember what they are so I start my travel planing searching for “Things to do in New York City” and that seems to do the trick.

I can find the latest shows, reviews and even tickets for the Staten Island Ferry. A planning project like this will keep Pat and I relaxed and happy for weeks. I know that sounds silly, but it is true.

By the time we are ready to pack up, and load the car with the 3 kids and a dog, half of the fun is over, by then the kids have worked out games to play, their favorite game is the Empire State Building game, this is a game to see who can build the highest tower out of empty cups, collected along the way. The 4 hour drive goes a bit slow with that many people in the van, and we are always happy to pull on to the street my sister live on, and take the final climb to south street seaport drive and see the familiar brown stone where I was raised as a child.

It is no wonder that I love the city, New York is home sweet home. That is the place Pat and I met, and grew up. Running in the street on hot summer days and hiding from the wind in the halls of the brown stone in the winter time.

After a week we have filled our energy buckets with the energy of the city and it is time to get back home. And once home, it is back to real life, and daily grind and a few happy memories of family, some New York City travel, and a car sick dog.
