Dieting For Weightloss}

Submitted by: Unnikrishnan Nedungadi

Losing weight with crash diet programs, people tend to gain the lost weight back and even more, all because their eating habits did not change along with the diet. Nutrition experts are of the opinion that, when dieting, one should not consume less than the recommended 1,000-1,200 calories a day. Therefore it is very important to diet using caution and common sense, so that you are losing fat and not muscle.

Weight loss

Weight-loss typically involves the loss of fat, water and muscle. Weight management is about long-term success & will hopefully last a lifetime. Weight gain is often linked to certain medication, such as HRT, the contraceptive pill and steroids.

The process of gaining the lost weight is also known as weight cycling and is commonly experienced by the weight loss dieters. These dieters are at an increased risk of developing gallstones.

Following are some of the weight reduction diets:

* Medical supervision of diets

* Diets followed independently

* Commercial dieting organizations

* Weight-loss support groups or behavior modification programs

* Diet supported by drugs and artificial food, prepackaged foods, foods with low calorie (VLCD), balanced diet plans supported by food supplements, ‘Fad diets’, diets medically supervised, diets provided in hospitals.

Diets

Dietary fiber is another food component which influences health even though it is not actually absorbed into the body. Diets affect the “energy in” component of the energy balance by limiting or altering the distribution of foods. Diets can be boring and there’s always a temptation to return to old habits. Diets do not lead to sustained weight loss or health benefits for the majority of people. Diets cannot help but fail because bodies were never meant to engage in repetitive cycles of dramatic weight loss and weight gain.

Diets that don’t include a variety of nutritious foods, or have too few calories, can be dangerous for kids. In most cases the goal is weight loss, but some athletes aspire to gain weight (usually in the form of muscle) and diets can also be used to maintain a stable body weight.

A variety of diets are available. But all weight loss diets limits the food intake in order to reduce the body weight. American football players on the other hand, follows a diet regimen to increase their body weight to give them the advantage over the other players in the field.

Individuals who are underweight, such as those recovering from anorexia nervosa or starvation, may adopt weight-gain diets which, unlike those of athletes, have the goal of restoring normal levels of body fat, muscle, and stores of essential nutrients.

Dieting

Dieting sets up a psychological state of childhood and usually fails in the long run, study finds. Dieting actually causes some people to gain weight.

Following are some of the side effects of dieting:

* It may make you feel hungry and preoccupied with food (thinking about it all the time)

* Distracted and tired

* Sad and unmotivated

* Cold and dizzy

* Wanting to taste the given up foods

Dieting is a stress on the body especially during pregnancy which causes hormone changes in the dieter. This can affect the child during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Doctors however, recommend dieting before pregnancy to lose weight. During dieting, especially with strong hypo caloric diets, the body is deprived of essential nutrients, like minerals and vitamins, most noticeably vitamin B.

Dieting seems not to solve the problem of being over weight. It rather adds to the woes of the dieters. The dieting cycle seems to be never ending, as the dieters are hooked on to the dieting indusrty and the varied dieting products. These dieters are at a greater risk of catching type-2 diabetes than those who are overweight and are not on any diet regimen.

Before embarking on a diet, focus on eating right, eating healthy, and eating nutritious foods. Balance your food intake with adequate nutrition from a variety of fruits and green vegetables. Supplement your food intake with nutritional supplements. Detoxify your colon and liver for fast and lasting effects of weight-loss. Consult your doctor for suitable weight-loss programs.

Good luck dieting and remember to eat smart.
